Churchill meets Kuwait SC in AFC cup

The preparations are in full swing at Nehru stadium, Fatorda, in Goa to host the AFC Cup group B match between National Champions of ONGC I-league 2008-09 Churchill Brothers and Defending champions of AFC cup Kuwait Sporting club on March 16.
Speaking to mediapersons here today, the Urban Development Minister, All India Football Federation Vice President and GFA President Mr Joaquim Alemao said Churchill team will play their first match and group's second match against Kuwait. They are determind to put up its best show and emerge winners against Kuwait and gained full points.
Alemao said though it is a big challenge to face the current leader of Kuwait league, he is confident the Churchill players will rise to the occasion and keep Goa's Churchill Brothers flag flying high.
''The match against Kuwait is our first step in the AFC Cup and getting three points from this match is very important'', he added.
The hot contenders for AFC Cup title, Kuwait Sports club is a well balanced team with two Brazilians in their ranks-- Forward Rodrigo Vergilio and Midfielder Rogerio De Assis Silva Countinho, who are to be watched.
They began this year's campaign under Brazilian coach Arthur Bernardes Ribas de Silva Filho with a 2-2 draw against Al Hilal of Yemen.
The Kuwait team will arrive tomorrow and will have their practice session at Cansaulim. The match commissioner and four match officials will also arrive tomorrow, Mr Alemao said.
