Mumbai, Mar 11:
Former president A P J Abdul Kalam has advocated for setting up of more schools across the country for mentally challenged children to give a fillip to their confidence and abilities.
"We need more such organisations or schools for special children in our country. These schools increase their confidence, capability and enhances their skills," Kalam said at a function organised by SPJ Sadhana School for mentally challenged children and young adults yesterday.
The former president, who was on a one-day visit to the city to attend two functions, also said there is a need to train teachers to handle these "special students".
"For these (mentally challenged) students there is a need for proper trained teachers," he said.
Kalam also suggested that mentally challenged children must be enrolled in special schools rather than delaying their admission.
