Bhopal Posted On Monday, March 08, 2010 | By Our Staff Reporter Bhopal, Mar 8: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has called upon the women representing half of the state's population to be a partner in the campaign being carried out to realise the goal of "Apna Madhya Pradesh Banao". Describing the women as the axis of the family, the Chief Minister observed that with their involvement in the campaign, the children and male members of the family would too find themselves get associated with the campaign facilitating easy access to the goal of this mega campaign. Chouhan was addressing a Women Convention and training programme organized by the Woman and Child development Department on the occasion of International Women's Day at the local Lal Parade Ground, today. Continuing the Chief Minister reiterated his commitment to women empowerment in the state. Chouhan said that the biggest task in the direction of women empowerment was to increase the participation of women in the governance. He said that Madhya Pradesh has accomplished this task in the country at the earliest reserving 50 percent seats for women in the Panchayat Raj Institutions and urban bodies in the state. He said that about 55 percent women have been elected in the recent elections to these bodies which augurs well for the women empowerment. The Chief Minister further said that the Ladli Laxmi Yojana has been introduced with an objective to make the girl's birth a boon instead of a curse. This novel scheme would soon be given a legal cover, he added. Chouhan said that through the rural transport policy, women vehicle drivers would be encouraged. He said that government would consider to carry out a campaign to issue driving license to the women vehicle drivers. Chouhan further observed that the practice of obscene portraying of women should be opposed at every level. He informed that he had imposed a ban on display of such advertisement hoardings in Madhya Pradesh. Chouhan further informed that the task of women empowerment occupies an important place in the priorities of the state government. To support this, the Chief Minister made a mention of various schemes being implemented in the state for the educational, social, legal and economic empowerment of the women folk. These schemes include Ladli Laxmi Yojana, Mukhya Mantri Kaynadan Yojana, Gaon Ki Beti Yojana, Janani Suraksha Yojana, Pratibha Kiran Yojana, Usha Kiran Yojana and schemes for distribution of free bicycles and textbooks to them. To mark this occasion, the Chief Minister felicitated Neetu Agrawal, Sapna Agrawal, Priyanka Malviya and Sandhya Pandey for their acts of bravery and awareness, presenting them shawl, shreephal and memento. Chouhan also handed over documents of Ladli Laxmi Yojana to four girls including Yashika, Haripriya, Subhana and Meena Kausar. The Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Ranjana Baghel said on the occasion that women and child development is a priority area of the state government. She informed that the budget of the department which was only Rs.190 crore in the year 2001-02 has now increased to Rs 1860 crore. Ms Baghel said that a provision of Rs 302 crore has been made for the Ladli Laxmi Yojana in the budget of the next financial year. Home Minister, Umashankar Gupta also spoke on the occasion. The programme began with the recitation of the Vandemataram. Among others who shared the dias on the occasion included the Chairperson of Child Protection Right Commission, Sheela Khanna; Principal Secretary, Women and Child Development, Lavleen Kakkad; Managing Director, Women Economic Development Corporation, Sudha Chaudhary and MLA Neena Verma.
