Varanasi, Mar 7:
Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal assured that IT-BHU will get IIT status soon. Sibal stressed that the education policy is being finalised keeping in mind the country's children and not to push any political agenda.
Talking to mediapersons, Sibal said the HRD ministry had plans for core syllabus and not the common syllabus. He said the decision to implement the core syllabus had been taken unanimously by 22 boards and it would be implemented in the country. Only 12.4% students after passing intermediate get admitted in graduation courses. To remedy this, private and global players need to invest in education sector as government has limitations as far as increasing the number of universities and colleges is concerned, Sibal said.
He said there was a huge demand of skilled hands and experts in all sectors across the world. For instance, the number of engineers in US falls far short of its requirement.
The demand for young engineers will also increase in countries like Germany, he said. India can fulfil all these requirements by ensuring quality education for students. Sibal said ensuring higher and technical education for talented children from poor families is proving to be a major challenge as their parents were not in a position to take loans from bank.
So, the ministry has plans to constitute an 'Education Finance Corporation' with a fund of over Rs 20,000 crore. He said the ministry is in touch with the Planning Commission for the approval of the plan. tnn
