Bhopal, Jan 14:
Makar Sankranti was celebrated with traditional fervour and devotion across the state today. Braving wintry weather, hundreds of devotees took dips in holy rivers Kshipra, in the ancient temple town Ujjain and Narmada at Omkareshwar after worshipping at temples.
They offered `til laddus', other eatables and fruits to deities. The poor were fed with til and khichdi. Kites were flown on the occasion.
In the state capital, Hindus took dips in the Upper Lake and other lakes and offered puja to the Sun. A three-day fair began at the Shiv temple in nearby Bhojpur. Devotees also took dips at Sethani Ghat in Hoshangabad, Bhedaghat at Jabalpur and the Narmada's place of origin at Amarkantak.
