News Flash Posted On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 | United News of India Lucknow/Jammu, Jan 12: Forty seven people died today in UP due to cold taking the toll to 383 in the state as severe cold wave prevailed unabated in many parts of northern India, affecting normal life. Five people succumbed in Varanasi and Allahabad, three each died in Jaunpur, Maharajganj, Kanpur, Mirzapur, Mahoba, Agra while two each died in Siddharthnagar, Gorakhpur, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Deoria, Meerut. One each died of nippy weather in Ballia, Azamgarh, Fatehpur, Faizabad, Mainpuri, Sitapur and Sultanpur. The cold conditions prevailed in most parts of the state and it remained foggy over all divisions of the state. Weather was mainly dry in all parts of UP in the last 24 hours. Night temperature fell appreciably in Allahabad and Kanpur divisions and changed little in the remaining divisions. In the national capital, severe cold conditions prevailed throughout the day even as the skies remained clear. The maximum temperature stood at 14.6 degree, six degrees below normal. Earlier in the day, the minimum was recorded at seven degree C. With night temperature improving in Kashmir, the day was still colder in the valley even as people in Ladakh region continued to shiver. Pahalgam remained coldest in the valley. The minimum temperature was minus 5.5 degree at the world famous tourist resort.
