News Flash Posted On Friday, December 11, 2009 | United News of India Rae Bareli, Dec 11: Devoting most of the time on monitoring the progress of the Centre's effective MNREGA and mid-day meal schemes, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today expressed her displeasure on the implementation of both the schemes in her constituency here. Ms Gandhi is on a two-day visit to her parliamentary constituency. The Congress chief on the first day of her visit today expressed her displeasure on the implementation of the mid-day meal scheme in primary schools at Satvakhera, Khanpur and Bakhliya villages. She expressed her annoyance at the poor quality of food and found that the children of Satvakhera were not even given meal since the past 1.5 months. Besides, she monitored the construction of a pond under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) in village Satvakehra and expressed displeasure on lesser opportunities of work to women. She also asked her accompanying officers to submit a report in the lapses. Ms Gandhi would also talk to the District Magistrate in the district Monitoring and Vigilance Committee meet slated for tomorrow. The Congress president also visited Pakhroli, where people had in her last visit complained regarding electrification work. Later, she went to a local market and asked the prices of vegetables. Ms Gandhi later visited the house of Bal Congress president Abhishek Jaiswal and extended sympathies to the berevead family members. Earlier in the day, she had expressed her annoyance over the bad condition of Dalmau-B Pump canal in her constituency and asked the officials to do the needful at the earliest. Launching her two day visit by a surprise inspection of the canal at Uchgaon village in Seraini assembly constituency, Ms Gandhi was annoyed after seeing the condition of the Dalmau-B pump canal passing through the area even after central Water Resources Ministry provided Rs 106 crore to revive the canal two years ago. She had asked the district officials accompanying her to look into the matter and asked them why the canal was dry affecting the irrigation in the region. After this, Ms Gandhi had visited Chandraman Khera and Usru villages under the Seraini assembly segement and talked with the villagers about their problems. In both the villages the Congress leader also distributed blankets among the poor families. As per the schedule, Ms Gandhi would meet the Congressmen in NTPC guest house later this evening. Ms Gandhi would tomorrow morning attend the meeting at the collectorate here.
