News Flash Posted On Sunday, December 06, 2009 | United News of India Moscow, Dec 6: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived today on a three-day visit to Russia to attend the annual bilateral Indo-Russian summit with his Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. Dr Singh arrived by a special Air India aircraft at 1245 hrs local time. During the visit, the two countries are likely to sign bilateral agreements in the fields of nuclear energy, defence, trade, hydrocarbons, trade and investment. Topping the agenda of the visit is inking a deal on expansion of civil nuclear cooperation and defence ties. It is a very significant visit from India's point of view. Russia has been important partner in areas like nuclear energy, oil, trade, Officials said. The visit of Dr Singh will witness the signing of many agreements aimed at ensuring continuation of Moscow's support for the ongoing civil nuclear programme in India. Dr Singh and Mr Medvedev are expected to expand civil nuclear cooperation between India and Russia. This follows the agreement, signed during a visit by the Russian President to New Delhi in December last year, to build civilian nuclear reactors in India.
