Business Posted On Saturday, November 28, 2009 | UNI Port Blair, Nov 28: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands bagged gold medal in the Union Territory's best stall category during the Indian International Trade Fair(IITF) in New Delhi. ''I am proud that the stall of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has bagged the gold medal,'' Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Mr Bhopinder Singh the told UNI today. He announced the medal yesterday in the national capital during the Andaman and Nicobar Day programme, which was a part of the IITF. Addressing a large gathering at Lal Chowk, Pragati Maidan, the Lt Governor hailed the islands for its natural and pristine beauty, which he said, is better than any other country. People used to describe Andaman and Nicobar Islands as Kalapani earlier, but that our islands have become 'pavitra paani' (holy water). ''In the islands people of all caste, creed and religion live peacefully in perfect harmony which is an example for others,'' he opined. ''We have braved tsunami and at present these islands are on the path of faster development,'' the governor added. He invited all the people of India to visit A & N Islands to experience the unparallel beauty of this archipelago.
