Cong announces mayoral nominees

Bhopal, Nov 26:
After a lengthy tug-of-war, the Congress tonight announced candidates for 11 mayoral posts ahead of next month's civic bodies polls. A marathon meeting continued late into the night yesterday and this morning Congress state President Suresh Pachouri chaired another gathering, party sources said.
The nominees are Bhopal, Indian Police Service Madhya Pradesh cadre officer Akhilesh Singh's wife Abha; Burhanpur, Shahnaz Bano; Khandwa, Suneeta Sunil Sakargaye; Ratlam, Jayanti Lal Jain; Dewas, Rekha Verma; Gwalior, Uma Sengar; Rewa, Sardar Prahlad Singh; Satna, Manish Singh; Jabalpur, Dinesh Yadav; Katni, Nirmala Devi Pathak and Sagar, Rekha Chaudhry.
Candidates were not announced for Indore and Singrauli. Ujjain is not going for election. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party announced 13 mayoral nominees yesterday.

Twenty-six file papers for mayoral post
Bhopal: On the last day of filing nomination papers for the mayoral post of Bhopal on Thursday in all 26 candidates filed their nomination papers while earlier two candidates had filed their nomination papers. Thus there are 28 candidates in the fray in the electoral battle for the post of mayor in Bhopal. It will be a straight-line contest between Congress candidate Abha Singh and BJP candidate Krishna Gaur.
Other candidates are Sangeeta Shrivastava, Nazma Parveen, Suhara Pradhan, Saida Bi, Sangeeta Sharma, Asma Azhar, Anamika, Richa Ashok Anuragi, Yasmeen, Divya Shukla, Krishna Gaur from BJP, Saroj Sharma, Deepti Singh, Suman Tiwari, Rukhsana Bi, Hamida Bi, Dr Aradhana Garg, Abha Singh from Congress, Kranti Chaturvedi, Dr Sashikala Rajput, Manmoj Jain, Faujiya Arshi, Aarti, Rajni, Anamika Singh and Puja Dixit.
For the election of mayoral candidate of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) two nomination papers were filed earlier by Nazma Parveen of Samajwadi Party and Sangeeta Shrivastava wife of Narendra Kumar.
For the post of corporator 103 candidates filed nomination papers today. Till yesterday 50 corporators had filed nomination papers. Similarly at Berasia one nomination paper was filed for Nagar Palika Adhyaksh and 10 for corporators. Today nine forms were sold for the post of mayor and 171 forms were sold for the post of corporators. For Barasiya Adhyaksh one form was sold and for corporators 19 forms were sold.
Today in Bhopal 10 forms were issued for mayor and 157 forms were soled for corporators. Thus on the last date today 40 froms were sold for mayor and 1301 forms were soled for corporators. Returning officer Barasiya Nagar Palika Anup Tiwari informed that till the last date of filing nominations papers only four candidates filed their nominations.
The candidates who have filed nomination papers are Krishna Dharmendra Soni, Saheen, Ragi Afrar, Sunita Kushwah wife of Pappu Bhaiya Kushwah and Sunita Rajmal Kushwah. Retirning officer Barasiya Nagar Palika informed that in 15 wards of Berasia Nagar Palika 100 candidates have filed nomination papers for 15 wards.
