Maharashtra batsmen rebuild after early damage against Karnataka

Pune, Nov 26:
Unbeaten knock of 117 by middle-order batsman Ankit Bawne and a 78 run innings by Rohit Motwani enabled hosts Maharashtra to post 254 for 5 in their second essay against Karnataka on the penultimate day of their four day Ranji trophy Elite B group league tie played here today.
In reply to Maharashtra's first innings score of 105, Karnataka got a lead of 448 as they declared on 553 for 4 today.
Amit Verma remained not out on 150 while B Akhil on 52.
Maharashtra's woes continued as they had a disaterous start and were reeeling at 4 for 39 in 11.3 overs. Desspite losing their top half, hosts went on to establish through Bawne and Motwani who added 188 runs for the fifth wicket.
Karnataka resumed their overnight score of 473 for 4 with Verma on 101 and Akhil on 24. The pair however remained unconquered and added 163 runs for the fifth wicket.
Verma remained unbeaten on 150 which was studded with 16 hits to the ropes and one six facing 187 balls. While Akhil compeled his half century 52 not out which had three fours from 104 balls.
Brief Scores: Maharashtra 105 and 254 for 5 in 68 overs.
