UNICEF releases World's Children report |

Bhopal Posted On Friday, November 20, 2009 | By Our Staff Reporter Bhopal, Nov 20: Children from Bhopal and Hoshanganabd as representing children of Madhya Pradesh released special edition of UNICEF's flagship ``The State of the World's Children'' report here today. Madhu, Shivani Sen, Aarti, Rajendra (visually challenged), Aashi, Pappi Khan, Danish were some group of children who along with Dr Sundeep Khanna Director General of Academy of Administration, Nirmala Buch, Former Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh & President Child Rights Observatory, Manish Mathur officer in charge, UNICEF office for Madhya Pradesh, were with children at the launching of the report. Releasing the report children praised the efforts being done by Government but called for more focus for their survival, care and protection. Children like Pappi Khan, Madhu, Aashi, Shivani Sen, Aarti, and Sunil were delighted as they were given platform to speak out which is one of their rights. In their talk they called on state, and society to speak out against female foeticide, child abuse and provide quality education and care to all. Director General of Academy of Administration Dr Sundeep Khanna, said that need is that all of us align to help children realise their right. Though we have come a long way forward but still need more miles to go. Nirmala Buch said that need is to is to change attitudes and have an environment where their is zero tolerance for violations of child rights. She stressed that need of child participation in reality and seeking children viewpoint when we decide eon policies for children. Welcoming all for the event Manish Mathur Officer in Charge UNICEF said that this is special edition which is released on the even of the 20th anniversary of the Convention's adoption by the UN General Assembly. He added that there has been considerable progress since the Convention was opened for signature twenty years ago though still there are challenges.
