Patna, Nov 19:
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today called for support from all sections of the society to make the state clean by providing better sanitation facilities for every citizen by 2012.
Addressing a function organised here to mark the world cleanliness day, Mr Kumar said access to better sanitation facilities for every citizen was essential to check the spread of 90 per cent of the disease aflicting the masses.
If we could provide safe drinking water and better sanitation facilities to common man, it would be possible to check the spread of most of the diseases, he added.
The Chief Minister said the state government was providing grants to families irrespective of their castes and economic conditions if they approached the government for the same, which included construction of toilet facilities in their houses.
''Defecation in open field was a bad habit and it should be avoided,'' he advised.
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi and Public Works Department Minister Ashwani Kumar Chaubey were among others who expressed their views on the occasion.
