Seminar starts on social anomalies |

Madhya Pradesh Posted On Sunday, November 15, 2009 | By Our Staff Reporter Hoshangabad, Nov 15: A two day seminar on social evils in the society started here at the Government Home Science College on Saturday. Eminent speakers from across the country came to deliver their lectures on the occasion. Chief guest on the occasion was Indian Ambassador to Fiji, Professor Ishwar Singh Chouhan while Prof CSN Thakur, head of department Sociology Dept Rani Durgavati University, presided over the function. Other eminent personalities present on the occasion included Nagendra Tiwari, Prof Gyanendra Gautam from Barkatulla University, Prof Prabha Verma, retired director Higher Education Department, and others. Discussions were held on role of media in eradication of social evils in the Society. During the inaugural session, the chief guests offered flowers on Maa Saraswati and the hosts welcomed guests and the ceremonious lamp was lighted. College principal Mr Parihar spoke on the occasion. He said media played a pivotal role in eradicating social evils in the society. Though India is talking about gllobalisation and open economy, many social evils still exist. We are fighting these evils since pre-independence times. Many laws have been made and amended but they still exist. Media can prove to be an effective tool to eradicate these vices. Organiser Kamini Jain said Media is one powerful solution to the vastly spreading social evils. Prof Gyanendra Gautam spoke at length on social evils in Indian society, their origin and possible remedies. Prof CS Thakur said many times long time followed social customs themselves turn into social evils. He said that Media could take the message to masses in a very easy and acceptable manner. Prof IS Chouhan said most of the victims to social evils are women in the man dominating society like ours. He termed Media as an effective tool for combating these evils. A souvenir was also released on the occasion. The souvenir contained research papers relating to social evils like dowry, female feticide, domestic violence, child marriages, child labour, and sex discrimination.
