Bhopal, July 27:
Minister of State for Mineral Resources Rajendra Shukl today assured the Assembly that a comprehensive inquiry would take place into cases of illegal sand extraction in Khargone district after adequate details were provided by Opposition members.
Raising the matter through a call attention notice, former minister Vijaylakshmi Sadho (Congress) said, ''four tribal folk - including two women - were killed and four injured after a quarry collapsed in that district's Jalkoti. Another tribal person was similarly killed later.'' Alleging that the sand mafia was ceaselessly operating under Mineral Resources Department officials' protection, she added that the deceased's families and the injured were not properly compensated.
''The Jalkoti mishap, on May 16, 2009, killed labourers Bhooribai, Goojarbai, Kavitabai and Ranjeet. As per Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's directive, Rs 1 lakh each were provided as ex gratia to the deceased's families and Rs 25,000 to each of the injured,'' said Shukl.
Replying to a call attention notice by Devendra Verma, Rajendra Shyamlal Dadu and Kunwar Vijay Shah (all Bharatiya Janata Party), Home Minister Jagdish Deora said that a special team was formed under the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Khargone, for investigating the murder of tribal seer Mangaldas Baba in Khandwa district's Kutbi.
