United News of India
Raipur, July 17:
Taking a serious note on illegal liquor shops in rural pockets of Chhattisgarh, State Commercial Tax Minister Amar Agrawal issued directives to the Excise Department Officers to shut them down in 15 days.
Annoyed with the officers for not taking any steps in removing the shops as per his directives issued earlier, the Minister said in an Excise Officers meeting at Commercial Tax Building here yesterday, ''Laxity will not be tolerated and sans any clarification action will be taken against the concerned district Excise Officer on receiving complaint of running of any illegal liquor shop in future.'' Secretary and Excise Commissioner Ganesh Shankar Mishra was also present in the meeting.
Mr Agrawal reviewed the division and district-wise revenue collected from the Excise Department in first Quarter of this fiscal.
It was reported that Rs 376.53 crore were collected from the Excise from last April 1 to this June 30 which was 31 per cent more than first Quarter's set target Rs 287.41 cr.
