Bhopal, July 17:
Refusing to carry out any probe against demolition of illegal roadside restaurants (dhabas) in the suburb of the state capital, Urban Administration and Development Minister Babulal Gaur today said in the Assembly that it was done to discourage illegal construction and curb crime.
Replying to a call attention notice by Umashankar Gupta (BJP) and Arif Aqueel (Cong), Gaur said that dhabas which were built without permission on agricultural land were demolished and the drive was mainly carried out in local Bhadbhada and Ratibarh area.
Gupta alleged that the demolition drive was carried out in a bid to divert public's attention from the gangrape that recently occurred at local Gandhinagar area.
Aqueel demanded the list of the criminal activities prevailing in the dhaba areas, which prompted the government to demolish them on which the minister reiterated that they were built illegally.
The Congress member demanded probe into the matter but Gaur said that there was no need of any investigation.
