Venkaiah Naidu criticises Centre over rejecting key recommendations on Lokpal

M Vankaiya NaiduAgencies, Hyderabad Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu today criticised the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre for rejecting two key recommendations made by the Parliamentary Select Committee on the Lokpal Bill.

The rejecting of the recommendations made by the select committee of Rajya Sabha which represented all major political parties was only to dilute the Lokpal Bill which was now pending in Rajya Sabha, Mr Naidu told at a news conference here today.

The Cabinet has rejected the committee recommendation that the Lokpal’s approval be sought for transfer of CBI officers investigating cases referred to by it by citing as an administrative matter and a public servant facing an inquiry need not be given a hearing during preliminary inquiry and also before ordering regular investigation by the Lokpal. Terming the decision of the Centre as ‘unfortunate’ particularly about not taking the consent of the lok pal before transferring of an officer of CBI in the middle of the investigation, he alleged that the Manmohan Singh government had taken the decision on the issue for political gains by approving the amendments to the official version of the Lokpal.

The former BJP National President said the UPA Government should have taken the Parliament into confidence before rejecting the two key recommendations made by the select committee and added ‘it is very clear that the congress party do not want to loose the control of the investigating agency.’ Charging the Congress-led UPA Government with misusingthe CBI to defame the opponents and win over neturals whenever necessary in order to keep the allies in control, he said the evil intention was for keeping the CBI under Centre’s control for only partisan ends. “Since the congress Party came to power at the Centre, it is misusing the CBI, Income Tax, governor system, CVC, Enforcement Directorate by using them for political gains,” Mr Naidu alleged.
