Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari today said the Centre does not discriminate with any non-Congress ruled state as it believes in all-round development of the country.
Mr Tewari made the observations while laying foundation stone of the 13.7-km long link road being built at an estimated cost of about Rs eight crore at Pohir in the district. The Centre had sanctioned more than Rs 40 crore for various link roads in Ludhiana under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna, the Congress leader claimed.
He said the UPA Government was taking care of development of agriculture and industry in the state and that is why an international level Research and Development Institute had been set up for wheat and maize at Ladowal in Ludhiana.
Due to the wrong economic policies of the Punjab government, the state was under the burden of Rs 75,000 crore debt and was unable to even pay salaries and pensions to the employees, he said.
Mr Tewari wondered that in such a situation how the state government can manage funds for development.
The Punjab government is making false claims of development, whereas the law and order situation has deteriorated and the economic health of the state has worsened, he added.
All development works in Punjab are being executed with the help of funds provided by the Central government under various welfare and development schemes including MGNREGA, SSA, Mid-day Meal Scheme and rural development, the Congress leader asserted.
The state government is taking undue credit for the same, he charged.
Mr Tewari appealed to the Punjab government to spend Central funds for the welfare of the people and abjure the policy of vote bank politics.
