UNICEF should play effective role in programmes for women and infants

Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Maya Singh has urged UNICEF to play effective role in programmes for women and infants. She informed that her department will launch children’s participation programme soon in Madhya Pradesh for dialogue with children to know their problems, difficulties and expectations. She urged UNICEF to cooperate in it. UNICEF Head Traver Clarke called on Smt. Maya Singh here today. UNICEF’s communication expert Anupam Gulati was also present on the occasion.

Smt. Maya Singh said that she felt the need of dialogue with children during her visits to various districts. It is a must to know their feelings and expectations so that schemes should be chalked out as per their requirements. For this, children’s participation programmes will be held soon throughout the state.

The Women & Child Development Minister said that untiring efforts need to be made to ensure that an infant gets mother’s milk half an hour after delivery. She said that apart from creating awareness, it is necessary to emotionally involved parents in the process and impart training to field staff. She urged UNICEF to extend cooperation to state government in this exercise so that every child is healthy since birth. Smt. Singh urged UNICEF to develop 5 districts as ideal districts in the context of implementation of programmes for women and children so that their positive effect cast neighbouring districts also. Smt. Singh urged to pay special attention to nourishment of children below 2 years of age. The Women & Child Development Minister urged to cooperate in training of Women and Child Department’s field staff apart from technical support. She urged to inform departmental staff other innovations and best practices of other states.
