Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal, While national mourning has been declared all over the country following the untimely demise of Goa Chief Minister, Shri Manohar Parrikar and flags at half staff at several places, Principal of state’s prestigious college Government Motilal Vigyan Mahavidyalaya granted permission to NSUI backed student organization “BKD” to take out a vehicle rally amidst loud beating of drums in contempt of the government order.
MVM Principal Neeraj Agnihotri has not only insulted the national mourning but also rejected the order of the rule, according to which rallies, indefinite fast, strikes, dharnas and demonstrations of political / students organizations were banned.
It may be noted that at the time when the drums were being played, the first year students’ were appearing for their Physics and Chemistry final practical examination in the college. Although the students protested and complained about the matter but the college disciplinary committee did not pay heed.
Students of BKD kept beating the drums in the college for almost an hour and even hoisted the tricolor in the college. The rally reached Bharat Mata Chowk from MVM where the students hoisted the tricolor ignoring the order of mourning. Here a question arises as to how the SDM allowed the rally to be taken out during national mourning and while the code of conduct has been implemented.
When activists of ABVP state office in Bharat Mata Chowk protested against the BKD workers and appealed to them to lower the flag in national mourning, the BKD workers started abusing them and making derogatory remarks. Seeing the tension between the two groups, the police force present there took charge and sent the rally back.
Student Abhijash Thakur says that the college principal is working under pressure of the government. We had asked for permission for weekly intellectual discussion in the college, but it was rejected but permission was granted to the vehicle rally and beating of drums which displays a partial attitude. Academic activities should be given priority in colleges but in MVM other activities are given more weightage.
The rally amounts to contempt of the national mourning, M.P government order and Election Code of Conduct. Meanwhile the students organization resorted to slogan raising and engaged in dispute at Bharat Mata Chowk. Meanwhile, ABVP workers have decided to gherao the college principal in protest against this incident at 11 am on Wednesday.
