Looking back at the 15th Lok Sabha that is nearing its end, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today expressed confidence in the resilience of Parliamentary democracy to carry the country through most trying times. The Prime Minister described passage of the Bill for creation of Telangana as one of the most remarkable achievement and a shining example of how the House had risen above all differences on crucial matters. Speaking on the last day of the last session of the Lok Sabha, Dr Singh said the House was ending its 15th term with many other landmark and difficult legislations to its credit including the National Food Security Bill.
The manner in which Telangana was being evolved showed the country could take decision on important matters without rancour and without worrying about pros and cons of things that did not matter, he said.
The Prime Minister said the National Food Security Bill was another landmark legislation which provide hope and succour to the downtrodden. The Prime Minister also paid tributes to Speaker Meira Kumar for her role in conducting the proceedings, Leader of the House Sushil Kumar Shinde and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for their contribution to the legislation in the House.
