The stalemate in Lok Sabha over banking scams and demands pertaining to the state of Andhra Pradesh raised by NDA ally Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Congress and other parties on various regional issues continued for the third consecutive day as uproarious scenes forced Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to adjourn the House till noon on Wednesday.
As soon as the members assembled to begin day’s proceedings, MPs from TDP, YSR Congress, Shiv Sena, AIADMK and Congress members rushed to the well of the House carrying placards.
Sena, also a NDA constituent, has been demanding that Marathi language be given the status of a ‘classical language’. They carried placards reading – ‘Marathi Bhasha,Abhijat Bhasha’ while members from Andhra Pradesh had placards reading ‘Save Andhra Pradesh’.
Amid din, Congress members referred to the Punjab National Bank scam in which a defaulter Nirav Modi was allegedly allowed to flee. AIADMK members also had rushed to the well demanding immediate setting up of Cauvery Water Management Board.
As the listed questions could not be taken up, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned proceedings till 1200 hrs.As the House was adjourned, some Sena members were seen moving towards Speaker’s chamber.
The second part of Budget session of Parliament had got underway on Monday,March 5, but so far no business could be transacted in either Houses.On Tuesday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said the government was ready for debate on all issues provided the members allowed the House function smoothly.
