The mortal remains of senior Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Sriniwas Tiwari was consigned to flames at his native village Tivni in Rewa District. His son and Congress legislator Sunderlal Tiwari lit the funeral pyre.
Mr Tiwari passed away at a private hospital in New Delhi two days ago. He was 93.
His body was flown to Satna in a special aircraft yesterday from where it was conveyed to his residence in Rewa town in a special vehicle. Local residents paid their last respects to the departed leader.
The funeral procession began from his residence. The last rites were performed at Tivni village.
Earlier, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Industry Minister Rajendra Shukla, Leader of the Opposition Ajay Singh, Assembly Deputy Speaker Rajendra Singh and other leaders paid tributes at his residence.
