New Delhi, Third seed Kidambi Srikkanth, B Sai Praneeth, Parupalli Kashyap and HS Prannoy advanced to the quarterfinals of Yonex-Sunrise India Open Badminton Tournament on Thursday.
Former champion Srikanth defeated Lu Guangzu 21-11, 21-16 in 34 minutes. Srikanth will face Praneeth in the last eight. Praneeth defeated Sameer Verma 18-21, 21-16, 21-15 in a tough fight.
20th ranked, Praneeth, with his victory, has got 3-3 record against 15th ranked Sameer. After losing the first game, Praneeth won the next two games and finished the match in one hour and 11 minutes.
Parupalli Kashyap of India made it to the quarter-finals by defeating Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk 21-11, 21-13 in 37 minutes. Kashyap will face Wang Zhiyi in the quarterfinals.
Prannoy defeated Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen 21-19 20-22 21-17 in one hour and six minutes to make it to the last eight. Prannoy will now have to compete with another Danish player and second seed Viktor Axelsen in the quarterfinals.
In the first round, India’s Shubhankar Dave who defeated fourth seed Tommy Sugiarto in the first round couldn’t continue with his pace and lost the second round. Wang Tzu-wei of Taipei defeated Shubhankar 21-16 21-13 in 44 minutes.
In women’s qualifier Riya Mukerjee had to face defeat in the 50th minute by Eighth seed Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt. Blichfeldt won the match 21-8, 17-21, 21-13.
In the women’s doubles, Aparna Balan and Shruti kepi defeated Hong Kong’s Nga Ting Yeung and Yiyung Anga Ting 21-19, 7-21, 21-17 in 50 minutes and in the men’s doubles, Prannoy Jerry Chopra and Shivam Verma defeated Aniruddha Maeker and Vinay Kumar Singh in 30 minutes 21-15, 21-11 and secured a place in the last eight.
