Special clinic to open for diabetic kids

Hamidia Hospital’s gift to kids on Children’s Day

On the occasion of Children’s Day, the paediatric and medicine departments of the Hamidia Hospital have announced to jointly launch diabetic clinic for the checkup and treatment of the children suffering from diabetes.

The clinic will start working from the Children’s Day i.e. November 14. It would be the endeavour of the hospital management to run this clinic on the lines of Diabetes in Young Clinic at AIIMS New Delhi, where all facilities are available including hormone lab and providing insulin to small children.

This information was given by Gandhi Medical College Assistant Professor Dr. Sachin Chittawar, paediatrician Dr. Jaishree Nadkarni, Head of Department of Medicine Dr. KK Kawre and Dean Prof. MC Songara at a press conference organized on the eve of World Diabetes Day.

Dr. Chittawar said out of 100 diabetes patients about 10 are of type 1 diabetes and most of them are children. When the body totally stops making insulin this condition is known as type 1 diabetes. This disease can afflict person of any age.

Dr. Jyotsana said the cost of treatment is burdensome especially for people belonging to weaker economic and social background. She said both the government and the private sectors should come forward to provide free insulin, insulin injection and glucometer to such patients.

She said that in view of shortage of trained doctors, junior doctors and postgraduate students would be trained in maximum numbers to overcome shortage of specialist doctors.

Dr. Kavre said the risk of type-2 diabetes is increasing among children due to obesity and changing eating habits. She said checkup and awareness programmes would be conducted in schools as well in future so that children could be saved from falling prey to this disease. Prof. MC Songara said one out of 10 women suffer from diabetes.

The risk of heart disease increases ten times among women suffering from type 2 diabetes. In the absence of proper treatment, their eyes and kidneys also get affected.

Awareness activities to be conducted against diabetes

In order to generate awareness among the people, different kinds of activities are being carried out in all the districts on World Diabetes day on November 14. Information on symptoms of diabetes and precautions will be provided to the people through awareness rallies, camps and seminars.

Advises are being given to the people by the doctors for tests and treatment in the nearby government hospitals if they come across with the main symptoms of diabetes like excessive thirst, hunger and not healing of wounds.

World Diabetes Day today

The World Diabetes Day focusing “Mahilaien evam Madhumay –Swasth Bhavishya Hamara Adhikaar” will be held this year in the state. Free blood sugar and blood pressure tests of pregnant women are being conducted to check diabetes at every Wednesday in all the District Hospital with the cooperation of Roshni Clinic.

Every District has Free Test Facilities for Diabetes, B.P and Heart Diseases Rashtriya cancer, madhumay, hridaya rog aur stroke nivaran evam niyantaran karyakram is being conducted by the Union and State Government in all the 51 districts.

Free test, diagnosis and treatment related to the diabetes, bold pressure and heart diseases are being provided to the persons over 30 years of age under the programme.

NCD clinics have been established in the district hospital one community health center of the district. Test, diagnosis and treatment facility for blood pressure, blood sugar, ECG and related to cancer disease is being provided in the clinic.
