Governor Shri Ram Naresh Yadav has said that improvement in declining academic standards is possible only when its objectives inculcate time-tested traditional values also. Shri Yadav was speaking at the 5th foundation day function of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research here today.
The Governor said that in true sense, academic viewpoint should be based on concern towards social, commercial and individual values. Former vice-chancellor of Benaras Hindu University Dr. Pujab Singh was the special guest on the occasion. At the function, the Governor also honoured institute’s student Shri Ardhyadeep Das with Design Excellence Award for graphics designing.
Governor Shri Yadav said that the true laboratory of science is society itself where innovations and experiments are needed and possible too. He said that education, especially science and technology can play a decisive role in redressal of big and small problems of society. The Governor said that such an educational set-up has to be re-established for basic development of society, which encompasses traditional and social values. Science, which is equipped with social concerns, has always ensured social welfare and removed darkness of illiteracy.
Special guest Dr. Punjab Singh said that India is a country of youths. Responsibility lies with youths to examine the fact as to why educational reforms are not yielding desired results. He said that education is the fundamental element of human development.
Besides making teaching facilities available, opportunities of training and skill development should also be provided. Shri Singh said that delve deep into the ground realities of academic scenario of the country. Shri Singh said that investment in education is utmost necessary for social development.
Institute’s Director Shri Vinod Kumar Singh said in his welcome address that objectives of the institute are to make available quality teaching. He said that poverty and many other problems can be redressed only through education. Shri Singh said that education is the key to the country’s progress whereas school education is incomplete with teaching of science. Shri Singh presented shawls and coconuts to the guests. The function was conducted by Prof. Saptrishi Mukherjee while Registrar Shri K.V. Satyamoorthi proposed a vote of thanks.
