Sharad move Delhi HC

Agencies, New Delhi

Former JD(U) president Sharad Yadav today filed a petition before Delhi High Court seeking to set aside his disqualification from Rajya Sabha, submitting that he was not given any hearing by the authorities before passing the order against him.

On December 4, Mr Sharad Yadav, along with another MP Ali Anwar, was disqualified from the Council of States. Mr Yadav had joined hands with the opposition after Janata Dal (United) president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar dumped the Grand Alliance with Rashtriya Janata Dal and Congress in the state and tied up with the Bharatiya Janata Party in July this year.

The term of Mr Anwar was to have ended early next year and in 2022 of Mr Sharad Yadav, who was elected to the Upper House of Parliament last year. The Janata Dal(U) had sought their disqualification on the grounds that the two leaders had attended a rally of opposition parties in Patna in violation of the party direction.

Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu had agreed with the JD(U) contention that the two senior leaders, by attending the event of opposition parties, had “voluntarily given up” their Rajya Sabha membership by defying the party’s directives.
