Amid electrifying campaign in Rajasthan, BJP president Amit Shah on Wednesday flayed the Congress party and questioned about their intention with regards to British arms dealer Christian Michel — whether they wanted to protect him from being extradited from Dubai to India.
The opposition has questioned the timing of Michel’s extradition which comes ahead of the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
Talking to reporters here he questioned, “Opposition does not have any issue to raise..you tell me shouldn’t a middleman be caught?.”
Wanted in the AgustaWestland VVIP helicopter deal, Michel arrived in New Delhi from Dubai on Tuesday night after the UAE government cleared his extradition.
The agent is alleged to have paid bribes to bureaucrats, defence officers and politicians in India to secure the contract for the sale of 12 choppers for Agusta during the UPA’s rule.
Investigations began in 2013 and the deal was cancelled in January 2014.
