Sensex end all-time-high at 33,940.30 on Friday

The equity market touched record high in the week ended Friday, as BSE Sensex surged by 477.33 points or 1.42 percent at 33,940.30 on the back of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP)win in the recently concluded assembly elections in Gujarat and
Himachal Pradesh amidst positive global cues.

The Nifty advanced by 159.75 points or 1.54 per cent at 10,493.The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index jumped by 3.52 pc and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index too spurted by 4.51 pc. Both these indices outperformed the Sensex.

After witnessing sharp volatility at the onset of the session on Monday as assembly elections results showed that BJP will return to power for a sixth straight term in Gujarat and will overthrow Congress rule to form government in Himachal Pradesh the Sensex gained by 138.71 points at 33,601.68.

On Tuesday it further added another gain of 235.06 points to 33,836.74, as firmness in most global stocks supported gains on the domestic bourses. On Wednesday and Thursday it was lost by 59 and 21 points respectively.

On Thursday it was settled at 33,756.28, after a range bound trade amid subdued global cues. It regained on Friday, the last trading session of the week,
as BSE sensex bounced back by 184.02 points at 33,940.30,
all-time-high.
