Sea Coast Security

Nine years ago on November 26 in 2008 the Pakistani terrorists entered into Mumbai from sea and attacked Taj Hotel, Oberoi Trident Hotel and Shivaji Terminus Railway Station. Many Indian, American, Israeli and nationals of other countries and police officers were killed in these attacks.

It was first time that Pakistan ISI and Hafiz Sayeed sent terrorists by sea route. One of the terrorist was Kasab who was held alive and rest were gunned down, Kasab was later sentenced to death. Since then the India become very alert on safety and security from sea sides.

India has longest sea border in the three sides, East- Bay of Bengal, South- the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea in the West only North of India has Hamalayan range land borders. During the reign of Prime Minister Pandit Nehru under the command of Indian Navy the organization of Coast Guard was formed.

Its main object is to check smuggling of drugs and illegal trade transactions and infiltration of illegal immigrants. At that time there was no problem of terrorism. But after the attack of 26/11 the situation has changed. Our world pride space agency ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) has been drafted into the job of coast line security with latest technology and equipment.

The ISRO will help on locating and apprehending the doubtful ships and boats with the pictures and information provided by satellites. By March 2018 the ISRO is providing 1000 transponders, 46 coastal radars ad 74 automatic identification system. All along the entire seashores all the persons doing the job of fish catching and trading will be given biometric cards for quick identification.

In 2008 the Pakistan terrorists were sent by ISI and Hafiz Sayeed from Karachi Seaport by a ship and they hijacked a motorized boat near Porbandar and reached Mumbai and landed near Gateway of India. The entire sea coasts of India in East-South-West will be at the surveillance under the ISRO satellite system. It is being developed as International Maritime Boundary Line.

The states located on sea costs are asked to have colour coding on all the boats. Sometime back under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor the China developed a sea port at Gwadar in Pakistan near Karachi in Baluchistan. Along with merchant navy the China has also stationed its warships here.

Taking into account all these development India has adopted its coastline security with updated technology. India along with Iran and Afghanistan has developed a sea port at Chabahar in Iran near the Pakistan’s Gwadar port. It has started functioning.

Most of the Indo-Afghan trade so far carried out via Pakistan has been diverted to Chabahar sea port. It is also a gate way of Afghanistan in Arabian Sea. The worried China is now trying to placate India by offering India to join the economic corridor and China is willing to change its name.
