Dealing a stunning blow to BCCI chief N Srinivasan, the Supreme Court today granted him 48 hrs to step down as BCCI chief on his own to ensure free and fair probe into IPL spot-fixing and betting scam.
A bench comprising Justices A K Patnaik and Fakir Mohammad Kalifulla observed ‘’ Fair probe in IPL spot-fixing scam is not possible till Srinivasan quits.’’
The apex court made it clear that if BCCI president didn’t quit the court would have to pass an order for his removal.
The top court also told Srinivasan’s counsel to decide as officer of this court after seeing the damning report of Justice Mukul Mudgal whether Srinivasan should quit immediately.
The highest court also described as ‘nauseating’ the continuation of Srinivasan as BCCI head.
Following the top court’s observations, BCCI vice-president Ravi Sawant reacted by saying ‘’the observation of the Supreme Court can not be ignored.’’
The next hearing in the case shall take place on March 28.
