Agencies, Bhopal

President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday observed that the influence of saint Kabir’s ideals is distinctly visible in the Constitution of India. Mr Kovind made the statement while addressing the Sadguru Kabir Mahotsav at the Lal Parade Ground here.

‘’The impact of saint Kabir is seen in the life and thoughts of Indian Constitution’s architect Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar. Thus, his influence is perceptible in the Constitution,’’ he said.

The President said saint Kabir demonstrated before the world the path of equality and harmony. He was a great social reformer besides being a saint. Sikh Guru Nanak Dev too mentioned him in his discourses.

Describing the Mahotsav as a sign of respect for weak, exploited, deprived and backward classes, he said the Madhya Pradesh Government is working towards inclusive development. This was the main message of the saint Kabir.

Governor O P Kohli, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Kabirpant saint Asang Dev Maharaj also addressed the programme. Mr Kovind’s wife Savita Kovind was also present.

The President honoured poets Rewa Prasad Dwivedi, Pratibha Satpathy and K Siva Reddy with the Kabir Samman on the occasion. The award carries Rs 3 lakh and a citation.
