Indian Badminton ace Saina Nehwal is planning to set up an academy in the garden city. Talking to newspersons here, she said the plan was in the initial stage and she was talking to some people. However, she did not say how soon it would materialise.
She said badminton had good tradition in the city, especially with the Prakash Padukone Academy here.
Replying to a question she however said that she would not give up Hyderabad, which according to her had good training facilities. ‘I had been training there for 13 years and I will continue to be there’ she said.
Saina is looking forward to resume competing in international circuit after her olympic bronze medal winning effort. After giving a miss to Chinese and Japanese events, Saina will now feature in Denmark Open and French Open. She has received the top seed in the French event.
Saina said she had been training hard over the last five weeks and has regained her rhythm. She hoped to give her best in the two events. Asked about some top seeded players withdrawing from the French open, she said Olympics had been a major event and some of the players have been having it easy post the London games.
Saina along with Boxing bronze medalist Mary Kom was gifted a three bedroom residential unit by Commune One.
Speaking on the occasion, Coimmune India CEP SAnjay Raj said Commune India would support them with world class facilities that would help them enhance their performance. Mary, in her interaction with the media expressed happiness over Women’s boxing being included in the Commonwealth Games and said she would be happy to fight for a medal.On her nostalgia about Bangalore she said she would make it her second home.
She said women’s boxing was getting an impetus in the country as a number of young girls were now taking to the sport.
