Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal is hunting for a sponsor again.
However, this is not to prepare against any formidable Chinese opponent, but to manage her badminton affairs from October 1.
The last day of September will mark the end of her three-year contract with the Hyderabad-based Deccan Chronicle Holdings (DCH), which had been doubling up as her main sponsor and her management agent.
With the principal promoter of Deccan Chargers whose IPL VI fate will be decided by the Bombay High Court on September 24, being in a financial mess and the international season having just commenced, Saina needs a sponsor who can step in and bail her out of avoidable tension.
Saina who was the face of Deccan Chronicle, the English daily that promotes the chargers, has reportedly sent in feelers to several top notch corporate houses. Incidentally, like her mentor Pullela Gopichand, Saina also has been quite selective about her endorsements, which presently revolve around Herbal Life, Ramen and Deccan Chronicle.
As she battles fitness problems and gets ready for the Denmark Open Super Series tournament later this year, her first outing since the London Olympics, she is now fervently engrossed in finding a new sponsor.
Given her stupendous achievements, and the brand value she brings along, there may be many out there, who would enthusiastically sponsor her for the next couple of years.
Despite being choosy, it may not be difficult for Saina for zeroing on a sponsor and a management firm.
After all, as a marketing tool, ‘Brand Saina’ spells mega bucks, huge returns and top grade media mileage, which will be a sure shot Olympic-sized jackpot.
