Midfielder Ritu Rani will lead an 18-member Indian senior women hockey squad in the 8th Asia Cupat Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from September 21-27.
Chanchan Devi Thokchom will be her deputy, Hockey Indiasaid in a statement here today.
“Hockey India Selectors B P Govinda, Surinder Kaur, MamtaKharab, Chief Coach Neil Hawgood, Coach I S Gill andScientific Advisor Matthew Tredrea alongwith GovernmentObserver Harbinder Singh selected the list of 18 players and 6standbys during the selection trials conducted at NSNISPatiala on August 30-31,” the statement read. The senior women team camp is currently underway andcommenced at NSNIS, Patiala from August 8 as finalpreparations for this tournament.
The team will depart for Malaysia on September 16. India is placed in Pool A with China, hosts Malaysia andHong Kong China while Korea, Japan, Kazakhstan and ChineseTaipei are placed in Pool B. India will open their campaign against Hong Kong China onSeptember 21 followed by China on September 22 and hostsMalaysia on September 24. The 8th Women’s Asia Cup is the continental qualificationtournament for the FIH Women’s World Cup to be played in TheHague, The Netherlands from May 31-June 14, 2014.
