Ranji Trophy: Kerala lead by 309 runs

After a spectacular display with the ball, Kerala’s Jalaj Saxena steal the show with the bat too scoring an unbeaten century to place hosts in a dominant position on the third day of the Ranji Trophy Group B match against Rajasthan at the St.Xavier’s College ground here today.

Hosts Kerala were at 217 for 2, leading by 309 runs, as Jalaj bags an unbeaten 102 and Sanju Samson remains at 72 not out at the end of the day. The unbeaten partnership of the duo piled up 159 runs. Resuming at 134 for six, T N Dhillon (44) and D L Chahar (31) showed some resistance lower down the order, to take Rajasthan total to 243 in the first innings.

Jalaj picks two more wickets to script another eight-wicket haul in an innings at a cost of 85 runs to take a crucial 92-run lead in the first innings for the hosts. For Rajasthan, the joy of an early breakthrough by the dismissal of Vishnu Vinod (8) and Rohan Prem (24) does not last long as Jalaj continued his superb form.

T N Dhillon and M K Lomror shared the wickets. Kerala score card zooms after Sanju Samson joined with Jalaj and the combination punished visitors bowling attack to end the day with an upper hand over Rajasthan.

Brief score: Kerala 335 & 217/2, Rajasthan 243.
