After wowing audiences and critics alike with its sensitive performances by Ranbir Kaspoor, Priyanka Chopra and Illena D Cruz, Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi’ has now been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars in the Foreign film category, sources in the film trade said.
The story of a deaf and mute boy (played by Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor) set in the fairy-tale world of 1970s Darjeeling, ‘Barfi’s nomination to the Foreign film category was announced late last night, the sources said. ‘Barfi’, which features Ranbir alongside Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra and South Indian actress Illena D ‘Cruz (who makes her debut in Hindi films with ‘Barfi’), beat several other films like ‘Kahaani’, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur Part I and II’, ‘Gattu’, ‘Jalpari’ and Dirty Picture’ who were in the race for being nominated as India’s official entry to the Oscars.
‘Barfi’ was selected from a shortlist of 20 films, trade sources said.
