Putting an end to more than two decades of speculation and offering a new year gift to thousands of his fans, Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth on Sunday confirmed his political entry and said he would definitely float his own party at the time of next Assembly elections and contest alone in all the 234 seats, while pursuing ‘spiritual’ politics that was free from caste or religion.

Keeping his date with the destiny, the 68-year-old actor made the announcement on the sixth and last day of the photo shoot with his fans at a marriage hall, much to the delight of thousands of his fans across Tamil Nadu.

In line with the promise made by him on December 26 that he would clarify his political stand on the new year eve, Rajinikanth finally came up with the eagerly and long-awaited announcement about his entry to politics and contest all the 234 seats in next Assembly elections (due in 2021) by launching his own party, that triggered joyous celebrations across the state, with his fans welcoming it by bursting crackers and distributing sweets.

Carrying placards and banners containing ‘catchy slogans’, they rejoiced over his announcement and danced, as the actor greeted them with folded hands and sporting a thumbs up sing from the balcony of the marriage hall.

Sporting the spiritual ‘Baba’ symbol, Rajinikanth announced that he was ready for the war. Quoting a sloka from the Bhagwad Gita which stresses the importance of doing one’s duty and leaving the rest to the God, the 68-year-old actor said ‘it is the compulsion of time.’’

“Engage in war, if you win you will rule the nation, if you die you will go to heaven. If you go without waging the war, they will call you a coward,” Rajini said quoting the scripture amid thunderous applause.

He said he would not contest the enusing local body elections due to paucity of time and that he would take a call on facing the 2019 (lok Sabha) elections, while confirming that the party would be launched at the time of next assembly polls.

Apart from his good friend and actor Kamal Hassan, leaders of various political parties, including Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, senior AIADMK leader and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, BJP State President Ms Tamizhisai Soundararajan, DMK Working President M K Stalin, his elder brother an expelled DMK leader M K Alagiri, VCK Leader Thol Thirumavalavan, TNCC Chief Su Thirunavukkarasar, CPI leader R Mutharasan, Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamywelcomed his decision to enter politics.

Amid chants of ‘Varungala Mudahalvar’ (future CM) by scores of his who had gathered outside a marriage hall eagerly expecting the announcement, Rajinikanth in his address said ‘’I am sure of entering politics”.

‘’I am ready for the war. I will definitely make an entry into politics. It is the need of the hour. I will start an independent party and will contest all the 234 seats in the elections”, he said, amid thunderous applause from the audience.
