Rain, hailstorm likely in many parts of state today

Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal

The Weather Department has warned that the various parts of state could once again experience rainfall and hailstorm activity on Tuesday. The weatherman said hailstorm could occur at various places in Bhopal, Gwalior, Chambal, Rewa, Hoshangabad, Jabalpur, Sagar and Shahdol divisions in next 24 hours.

Rain or thundershowers could occur at many places in East and West Madhya Pradesh during this period. On Monday the skies in the city remained partially cloudy although there was no rainfall activity. The weather in the state remained mainly dry although clouding and drizzle was reported from some places.

Earlier on Sunday, hailstorm and heavy showers were reported at several places across the State including the State capital.

Besides disrupting the normal life, the inclement weather damaged the crops.
One person died due to lightning in Diraulipaar in Dabra while three persons sustained severe injuries in Ladpura village in Tikamgarh.

Bhopal witnessed heavy hailstorm at isolated places and similar conditions are likely in the next 24 hours.

These rains and thundershowers were accompanied with lightning activity. Four people were killed and five were injured due to lightning strikes in different parts of the state on Sunday. Cloudy weather had begun over the region during the morning hours which was followed by rainfall and thunderstorms.

Many places in the state also witnessed hailstorm activity along with strong winds. Cities of Betul, Bhopal, Multai, Satna, Gwalior, Chhindwara, Dabara, and Narsingpur witnessed rain and hailstorm. Due to this, standing rabi crops including wheat, grams, pea and masur were damaged.

These rains were attributed to the induced cyclonic circulation which is over Northwest India. Also, a trough was extending from this system up to Vidarbha across Madhya Pradesh. Moreover, moist winds from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea were merging over East Madhya Pradesh resulting in a confluence zone over the region.

Now, as per weathermen, East Madhya Pradesh is expected to continue witnessing rain as well as hailstorm activity. In fact, moderate to heavy rains with hailstorm will also be observed over Chhattisgarh during the next 24 hours.
