Railways Targeted

These days the Railways are targeted for attacks, sabotage, blasting railway tracks by the terrorist and militant outfits like Islamic State, Pakistan, Naxals, Bodos etc. Besides all this now it has become a trend in India that in all demonstrations and agitation ‘Rail Roko’ is common feature to project their demands.

Although such agitations and demands have nothing to do with rail administration and rail movement. The Railways can not be blamed for such agitation and break down in rail operations due to such actions. The Railways are the worst victim and suffer an all such attacks, agitations, demonstrations and rallies. It suffer colossal losses. Only sometime back the Jat community in Rajasthan on reservation demand pitched their tents on railway tracks and held up the movements of all passenger and goods trains for more than a month on Mumbai Central – Delhi section.

People suffered great inconvenience and railways suffered loss of millions of rupees. At that time it appeared as if there were no state and Central Government in existence. When Supreme Court pulled up both the Governments for repulsive inaction and criminal apathy towards the public the Government realized its responsibility.

The Jat fearing some decisive action in court order vacated the tracks and train movement resumed. On political rallies trains are captured by rally mobes who are mostly without ticket. How railways can be blamed for all such situations. How it can deal with terrorist attacks, ‘Rail Roko’ by agitators?. Now criminals have also taken moving train as most suitable to them to rob and attack helpless passengers with total immunity from immediate police action. Most of them go scot free.

The job of railways to operate the trains and keep the rolling stocks and other equipment fit and right. The situation is so worst that now it is the Railways that require protection for its operations and safe train travel. It is the job of the Government to deal with the criminals, agitations and terrorists.

Of course the Railways are responsible only on any operational lapse like faulty tracks, wrong clearance to train to move, faulty equipments and unclean situations. The recent train mishaps at Kanpur, Jodhpur and in Odisa are terrorist activity and beside public the railways are also victim of it and need protection to operate safe services.
