New Delhi, The BJP on Friday demanded that the Congress President Rahul Gandhi should clarify about his reported statement that “Congress party is a Muslim party” and charged the grand old outfit with trying to a create a roadmap to contest 2019 polls based on ‘religious divide’.
“Congress party agla chunao dharm ke adhar pe ladna cha rahi hae (We think, Congress party wants to contest 2019 elections based on religious divide),” BJP leader and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters here on Friday.
She said by the recent conduct and statements, as reported in media, a number of Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi are giving an impression that the country’s oldest party “is getting back to its divide India mindset”.
Ms Sitharaman displayed a newspaper report and maintained that in a meeting with Muslim intellectuals in Delhi earlier this week, the Congress president has told them that the Congress party is a “Muslim party”.
“Earlier it was an appeasement of a different kind….now it is taking shape in the name (and identity) of the party itself,” she said.
“The statements such as this and by Shashi Tharoor about Hindu-Pakistan create a situation that the Congress party has to come clean……What exactly is going on in Congress,” she said.
