Rahul is party’s PM candidate: Beni

RAhul GandhiAgencies, Lucknow Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma today said Rahul Gandhi is certainly the Congress Prime Minsiterial candidate in the coming Lok Sabha elections and there should be no comparison between Rahul Gandhi and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

“Everyone in the Congress wants Rahul Gandhi to become the next PM of the country as he is the only capable leader of the country to rule,” he said. Addressing a press conference here, Mr Verma, pooh-poohed the effort by the BJP to make Gujarat CM Narendra Modi as the PM candidate. “The effort of the BJP will fell flat as how can a CM of a state can compete with a national leader,” he said while narrating several positive role of the Congres Vice- President.

“Rahul Gandhi is a leader of multi-religion and multi language of the country but Narandra Modi is a just a CM of a state, who has earned his name by his communal stand,” the Union minister said. He also said in no way BJP could come to the power at the Centre after Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who could become the PM only for his balanced attitude.

Refuting the charges of nepotism within the Congress, he said Nehru-Gandhi family joined the politics only when the party was in doldrums in 1998. “None of Gandhi family became union minister nor they took any post in the organisation before 1998 after the death of Rajiv Gandhi,” he claimed while hinted that such thing could only be an example in Uttar Pradesh nowdays in the ruling Samajwadi Party. Mr Verma also refused to comment on the decision of the Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) chief Sharad Pawar to hand over the baton to Praful Patel rather than to his daughter.” it is their internal matter,” he just said. He also supported the cabinet decision to approve 14 of the 16 recommendations made by the select committee of the Parliament for the Lokpal Bill.
