Bengaluru, The rift over presentation of Fresh Budget deepens in the JD-Congress Coalition government headed by H D Kumaraswamy deepened with the new Chief Minister stating that it is his (Chief Minister’s) prerogative.
Though Mr Kumaraswamy insisted that it is his prerogative, he was not sure whether he will present a fresh Budget or not as there was opposition from Congress ranks.
Speaking at a meeting convened by him to discuss crop loan waiver, a pre-poll promise made in JD(S) manifesto before May 12 election, Mr Kumaraswamy said ‘’Should I present a fresh budget or not is still being talked about.
But if I do not do it and continue with old budget presented by previous Congress government, it may breach newly elected Assembly member’s privilege,’’ he claimed.
The Chief Minister’s comments came in the wake of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressing reservation over the presentation of fresh budget saying that the new government can move supplementary budget to include his party’s promises. When JD(S) wants Congress’ support to run the government, why not continue with this party’s budget, he was reported to have asked.
Meanwhile, JDS National President H D Devegowda, ruling out any difference of opinion on the issue, stated that the Chief Minister will present fresh Budget and there will be no opposition to it. ‘Mr Kumaraswamy will present the new budget on July 5. There is no confusion,’ he said.
