Power supply hit in many areas as contract staff begin strike

Bhopal : Many power substations supplying electricity in the state stopped functioning on Monday as contract and outsourcing employees of the power department proceeded on indefinite strike. According to MP Samvida Karmchari Adhikari Mahasangh the power supply in many rural and urban areas was hit.

The power supply was hit at Ashok Nagar rural area, Shivpuri, Bajrang Garh in Guna, Malanpur Industrial Area in Gwalior, Patharia in Sagar, Narsinghgarh and at other places. About 25000 contract and outsourcing employees of the electricity department have proceeded on indefinite strike from Monday.

Mahasahgh state president Ramesh Rathore and Forum for Power Employees Federation and Engineers convener VKS Parihar said the agitating employees held a demo at the Ambedkar Maidan.

The main demands of the employees are: regularization of contract employees as promised by the BJP government in its manifesto, the outsourcing employees should be appointed on contract or regularized, reinstatement of expelled contract employees and implementation of the policy for the regularization of the contract employees.
