Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in saluting the skills, strengths and fortitude of the girl child on the occasion on National Girl Child Day on Wednesday.
‘We salute the skills, strengths and fortitude of the girl child. We are proud of the accomplishments of the girl child in various fields,’ Mr Modi wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.
‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ is one of the flagship campaigns of NDA Government that aims to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls. The Scheme has brought very encouraging results in Haryana for the first time. The state has claimed to have logged the highest ever sex ratio of 914 girls against 1,000 boys in 2017. It was 900 in 2016 and 876 in 2015.
On the occasion, the Health and Family Welfare ministry said ,’Let us save the girl child. BetiBachaoBetiPadhao SwasthaBharat HealthForAll.’
The ministry also displayed a poster on its twitter handle saying,’ Stop Sex Selection. Save the Girl child. Pre-conception sex selection and pre-natal sex determination is a criminal offence under the Pre-conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994.’ Every offence under PC and PNDT Act, 1994 is cognisable, non-bailable and non-compoundable.
Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh reiterating Prime Minister’s ‘Beta Beti Ek Samaan’ slogan said it’s time to create a society, which welcomes the girl child, nurtures them, and provides them a healthy atmosphere where they can flourish without any fears.
A poster quoted Mr Modi saying ‘Let us celebrate the birth of the Girl Child. We should be equally proud of our daughters. Our mantra should be beta beti ek samaan.’
The Congress said ,’Today and every day, we continue our fight against the inequities the girl child faces.’
Ministry of Women and Child Development tweeted,’Hon’ble Prime Minister, Sh. @NarendraModi, who has been spearheading the BetiBachaoBetiPadhao movement, has incessantly advocated an equal world for our daughters.’
Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda asked people to pledge to empower, nurture & motivate the girl child, adding that ‘I am happy to share on this occasion the good news that we have been able to reduce the Gender Gap for Child Survival in India.’
All India Mahila Congress tweeted,’ January 24 is observed as the #NationalGirlChildDay to create awareness of issues related to girls like the evils of female foeticide, female infanticide and discrimination in matters of health, nutrition, education and opportunities.’
Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu said National Girl Child Day celebrates the splendid achievements of the girl child and also challenges gender-based stereotypes. ‘Let every girl child be cherished and given equal opportunities to shine forth in her life,’ he added.
Minister of Railways and Coal, Piyush Goyal said,’We reaffirm our commitment to encourage gender equality. Indian Railways is celebrating 2018 as the year for security of women & child commuters. Let us all challenge gender based stereotypes and celebrate outstanding accomplishments of the girl child.’
HRD Minister Smriti Irani said,’Let us celebrate achievements of our girl child with pride and pledge to empower them with equal opportunities.’
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted his greetings. His state was working hard to provide congenial environment to girls, he said, adding ‘On this day let us pledge to celebrate birth of every girl child. Education is imperative for emancipation of girls. We strive to provide them the best opportunities.’
Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad expressed,’Let us commit towards educating & empowering every girl child of country with equal opportunities. ‘All India Mahila Congress tweeted,’We have to make sure our girls grow up in a healthy & safe atmosphere, free of discrimination and equal access to opportunities.’
