PM dedicates Kalvari, Indian submarine to nation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday dedicated submarine INS Kalvari to the nation.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba and Vice-Admiral Girish Luthra were also present at the commissioning ceremony here.

The scorpene-class submarine INS Kalvari, made with French collaboration, has been built at The Mazgaon Dock Ltd.

Kalvari is named after a dreaded shark of deep Indian ocean.
First Kalvari was commissioned in 1967.

Kalvari is the first of six scorpone class submainre handed by Mazgaon dock.

Describing Kalvari as the great example ‘Make in India’, the Prime Minister thanked¬†France for its collaboration.
