Cyclone Phailin, which hit Odisha coast on the night of October 12 and triggerred floods in the state, has claimed 25 lives and affected a population of nearly 1.18 crore in the state.
Official sources today said while 21 people were killed in Phailin, four died in the floods.
The maximum casualty of nine was reported from Ganjam district, worst hit by the killer Phailin, followed by three each from Balasore and Puri, two from Nayagarh. one each from Khurda,Bhadrak, Bolangir and Jagatsinghour districts.
In the subsequent floods after the Phailin hit the coast, two people were killed in Angul and one each in Baripada and Bhadrak.Out of the four, three drowned and one killed in wall collapse.
The Phailin caused a medium floods in Budhabalang, Baitarani, Jalaka and Rushikulya rivers and Balasore district was the worst hit affecting nearly seven lakh population spread over 930 villages in 144 gram panchayats.
The government had to evacuate 68,521 people alone in Balasore during the flood and pressed Army, Navy,NDRF and ODRAF teams for the relief and rescue operation.
