Peace in Parliament

The row over Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi’s certain observation on former Prime Minister Mr.Manmohan Singh and remarks by Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyyer against Mr.Modi disrupted the proceedings of the Parliament has been resolved amicably.

The Union Finance Minister Mr.Arun Jaitley said in the Parliament that the Prime Minister Mr.Modi did not question or mean to question the commitment to the nation of either by Dr.Manmohan Singh or former Vice President Mr.Hamid Ansari. Any such perception is completely erroneous. We hold them in high esteem.

Reciprocating the gesture from Mr.Jaitley the Leader of Congress party in the Rajya Sabha Mr.Gulam Nabi Azad said that “if during the election any member of our party gave such a statement that was against the stature of the Prime Minister, then our party disassociates itself from any such statement.

With these two statement the bitterness, confrontations and disruptions of proceeding have come to an end in soothing atmosphere.During the Gujarat election campaigns one of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan came on a private visit to India and in Delhi Mr.Mani Shankar Aiyyer hosted a dinner for him.

The others on the dinner table were Dr.Manmohan Singh, Mr.Hamid Ansari, the Pakistan High Commissioner in India Mr.Basit and former Army Chief of India Mr.Deepak Mehta. It was neither a secret meeting nor objectionable in any way.

Unfortunately the very next day of this dinner meeting Mr.Aiyyer passed some derogatory remark against Mr.Modi like “Neech” (low person). It naturally provoked Mr.Modi and his party. Mr.Modi during his election speeches questioned the purpose and motive of Mr.Manmohan Singh in attending a dinner meeting with Pakistan leaders.

The Congress took affront to Mr.Modi’s observation on Mr.Manmohan Singh and Mr.Hamid Ansari as if they conspired with Pakistan leaders to meddle in Gujarat election. During election all the time some excesses in speeches and observation are made and forgotten after the polls.

This issue should have not be used or referred in Parliament for stalling the proceedings. This nasty situation arose due to the wrong behaviour of Mr.Aiyyer.

Although the then Vice President of the Congress Mr.Rahul Gandhi on the next day suspended Mr.Aiyyer from the party for these remarks. But the BJP fully used it in their favour to corner Congress in the elections.
