Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath observed on Saturday that Panchayati Raj has weakened over the past one-and-a-half decades in the state.
“The very foundation of development – panchayat institutions – will be accorded rights as per the dream of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and erstwhile premier Rajiv Gandhi. Elected representatives of these village councils shall not have to rush to the state capital or visit ministers.
They will be granted sufficient authority so that they themselves can develop their areas,” Mr Nath was officially quoted as saying in his address at a training and capacity-building programme of the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, three-tier Panchayati Raj representatives and self-help groups.
State Public Relations Minister PC Sharma and Agriculture Minister Sachin Yadav were among those present on the occasion.
